What it is
A rock balcony at the top of the gorge, looking down on the same river system you spent the morning inside. The drop below the edge is roughly 400 metres. It is the photograph people take home from this day.
Seeing the canyon from the water and then from the rim in a single day is a genuinely different pair of impressions, and it is the reason the combo exists at all.
What it is not
It is not a hike. You are driven up and you walk from the vehicle to the viewing area. There is no trail day, no descent into the canyon and no climbing involved.
It is also not a separate tour you can add on the day. It belongs to the combo departure, which uses a different vehicle and a different afternoon, so it is chosen at the moment you book.
Practical notes
- The edge is unfenced rock in places. Keep children with you and keep your footing.
- Shoes that grip are worth more here than anywhere else in the day, and you will already have them on from the river.
- There is nothing to pay at the viewpoint; it is inside the combo price.
- Wind picks up at the rim — a dry layer from your bag is welcome after the river.
Is it worth the difference?
If the river is the thing you came for, the €23 day gives you all of it and nothing is missing from it. The combo is for people who would rather have one long day than two half ones, and who want the second view.
We would rather you booked the cheaper one and enjoyed it than the dearer one and wondered why.
